Day 6 Walkin’ Copenhagen

Left the ferry around 10AM, caught the shuttle bus into downtown, with map in hand, found our hotel for the next three days, dropped our bags off and headed out into the city for the day.  We discovered that Copenhagen is best seen by walking or on a bike, in contrast to Oslo, it is small enough that mass transit isn’t needed.  So, with map in hand we decided to do the Royal Tour.  Seven hours later we end up at our hotel, exhausted and hungry.  Our only stop for food was 7-11!  However, Denmark’s 7-11’s are not like those in the US of A.  These are smaller with artisanal coffees, fresh pastries, and homemade sandwiches.  Not a slurpee machine in sight.  We’re going back, great Danish.  We ended the day in a downpour, looking on Yelp for a good restaurant.  Alex found an excellent Indian restaurant down the street, fortunately.    A few pictures from the day:

The Rosenborg Castle.  Built in the 1600’s by Christian IV.  The incredible “summer home” of Christian IV.  Later used for 150 years to store royal memorabilia, until it was reopened as a museum in the 1800’s.

The Treasury in the Rosenborg Castle basement rivals England’s Crown Jewels, plus you could take all the pictures you wanted, and no conveyor belt to keep you moving!  This is from a solid piece of ivory, note the carved “chain”.  Incredible.

This castle rivals any in Great Britain or Germany for “bling”.  A typical ceiling.

The king’s and queen’s crowns.  Up close and personal.  Just don’t touch the glass, Alex was yelled out.
