Day 1-Traveling to Scandinavia

Prepare to prepare.  This trip originated months ago when I noticed a $500 round trip ticket from SFO to Oslo, Norway.  Unpassible.  Some time ago, we had promised Alex and Hannah we would take them on a trip after they got married.  One phone call later, I had four tickets.  We would have gone sooner, but their wedding slowed us down; hence October.   Alex and Hannah flew down from Bozeman, we drove from home, arriving at Travelodge simultaneously.  A night’s rest, and we are off to Newark, for a short layover, then on to Oslo for the first of four Scandinavian countries.

This is a “do it yourself” holiday.  No tours; that’s for sissies.  We have pre-booked hotels, trains, busses, planes, ferries.  Time consuming to research, but gratifying in execution. That is if it all works out!  We will soon discover.

Update: On the Airport Express train from OSL to Oslo proper.  Sissel, our Oslo contact, (college classmate of a friend of ours), is meeting us at the train station close to her flat.  She will be our host here in Norway.  Our friend, Clay, emailed her some time ago, to see if she could suggest sights to see in Norway, she did, and offered for us to stay with her while in Oslo!  While waiting for our train, I asked a local if I could use her mobile phone to contact Sissel.  She will be waiting for us at her local station.
